Although some people only listen to the radio in a vehicle, no one can deny that music is important to everyone. There are some who simply listen to the tunes and others who depend on their car radio for news, weather, and more. Since radio is sometimes put aside for internet radios and smart phone downloads; many stations are trying to up their game. Often, this means that they must first start rebuilding a broadcast booth so that they can do more than simply play music and news like traditional radio stations have done.
A New Kind of Radio
Remember the days when people would sit around the radio and listen to nightly broadcasts? It was our first “television” and the stories that were told were meant to provide listeners with mental images. Those days are long gone. Radio stories were transformed into actual images on a screen. As time passed and we reach today’s technology; radio has faded out even more. Now, in order to bring people back to the radio stations; radio personalities are attempting to think outside of the box. There are humorous news stories, public appearances, song request hours, and interviews with celebrities. The possibilities are endless and there is no telling what you will find when you tune in. As another way to bring people back; there are some personalities that live stream what they are doing in the studio so that listeners can watch and listen at any time.
Big News for Radio Show Hosts
Radio personalities must be filled with personality. They must always look the part and be entertaining when they are broadcasting live. They must also have equipment that looks appealing when on the camera. They must have a microphone that doesn’t block their facial features, often this includes having a microphone arm that can easily be moved out of the way. Most all studios will have a talent panel, phones with a Talkback system, turntables, disk players, CDs, headphones, and on-air lights to let potential guests know when they should stay out of the studio. All these things must sit on a desk that looks professional and even beautiful. For the desk, most studios choose a dark wood or at the very least cover a lighter desk with walnut alkyd medium for glazing, which ensures that their studio’s focal point is always beautiful.
It “Sounds” Beautiful
When everything comes together in the station; you can expect to have an amazing broadcast on both the radio or the live stream. There are people who do not normally listen to the radio who now love watching the live broadcasts, which sends ratings through the roof. On the air, everything needs to look as effortless as possible. It does take a little planning, since not all studios seem like streamlined areas. It also takes a little test and tune to ensure the broadcast looks as great as it sounds. This is why we personally choose to go with the glaze, since it ensures that the desktop shines; even though the lighting is not always great.
